Character bio GW was born in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, the eldest of six children. He grew up in the heart of Cajun country, and speaks with a noticeable Louisiana accent. His father, being a very patriotic sort, convinced his mother that since GW was born on Washington’s Birthday he should be named after the founding father.
His family has a long tradition of practicing white magic, mostly by the women. The Robichaux women are known locally for folk healing and protective magic, and GW grew up with knowledge of the supernatural all around him. Because the family clung to the old ways, GW also grew up hearing Cajun French and can speak it fluently.
The family also tends to produce musicians, and GW started learning how to play the fiddle as soon as he was big enough to hold one. He mainly plays Cajun and Bluegrass music, but listens to just about any kind of music he can get his hands on. Later he also learned how to play the harmonica, to have something lightweight and compact to play in places where weight and size were critical.
As a teenager, GW was something of a wild child, getting into trouble in school and his grades were barely good enough to keep his athletic eligibility in wrestling. After a prank went bad his senior year and he was threatened with a misdemeanor charge, his parents strongly encouraged him to consider the military as a way of getting some purpose and direction in his life.
GW enlisted in the Marine Corps his senior year, and shipped out to boot camp at Paris Island a week after graduating High School in 1998. He had urge to get out and see some of the world before settling down and no desire to work in the petroleum industry. The Marines trained him to be an infantryman and he found he enjoyed the camaraderie with his fellow Marines and esprit de corps of the organization.
One of the things he particularly enjoyed was the Corps unarmed combat program, and status of black belt when the organization rolled out the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program
When 9/11 happened, GW’s unit, the 15th MEU (soc), was one of the first into Afghanistan and he saw extensive action during the initial fighting there.
After his time in the infantry he was accepted into the Marine Guard School to become an Embassy Marine in late 2002. He graduated top of his class and was assigned to the US embassy in London. While there he would have an incident that would change his life.
GW was on liberty exploring some of the country outside of London and had spent the evening drinking at a local pub. He was attacked by a vampire and would have died if not for the timely intervention of a Slayer and her watcher, Robert Nelson. They took him to Robert’s house nearby, where his daughter Helene, a nurse, patched him up.
It was love at first sight, and also the start of a brand new way of life for GW. He and Helene were married in 2005 after he was discharged from the Marines.
The couple returned home to Louisiana in 2007 (though there had been frequent visits home before that) to allow GW to pursue a master’s degree at an in-state school.
Helene was killed when a drunk driver hit their car in October of 2008, and GW was badly injured, spending six weeks in the hospital. It took him months to heal completely both physically and emotionally, and the support of his family has been very important.
Recently his wanderlust has taken him away from the swamps and farms of Cajun country and to the desert of Nevada, a town called Searchlight…

Writing Sample GW wiped his brow and looked around the mobile home he’d be calling home for at least the next six months. It wasn’t anything to brag about, his family’s home back in Louisiana was palatial in comparison, but it beat a FEMA trailer or a number of spots he’d lived in during his time in the Corps. He’d done his best to make it look homey, and everything was unpacked and put away. Time for a break. A light beer was retrieved from the refrigerator and he headed for the door.
The Cajun stepped out of his trailer, dressed in sandals, shorts and a faded gray LSU t-shirt with the arms cut off. He never thought he’d wind up in another desert but life had a way of surprising you when you least expected it. “Wish you was here Helene,” he said softly as he set down on his front steps “I dink you’da liked it.” GW still missed her, but the pain was much softer now than it had been a year ago. For the most part he was back to his old devil may care self when he didn’t have to be serious.
Money would be tight, but he could teach the fiddle and do some odd jobs to keep the bills paid until he could get some regular gigs. A musician of his level shouldn’t have too much trouble finding work; it was just a matter of asking around and making connections.
